What is Search Intent:
Search Intent is the "why" behind a search question. Why is something searching for something.
Types of Search Intent:
- Informational:
- Informational search intent is when someone is simply looking for information over a certain topic.
- Navigational:
- Navigational search is when someone has the information for the result they're looking for, but need a guide to a website, rather than directly searching for a URL.
- Transactional:
- Transactional searches are when someone is looking to purchase a product. This type of search would lead a consumer to something that would help the buying process.
- Commercial Investigation:
- Commercial investigation intent is when someone is looking to do research on a product or service prior to the purchase.
Search Intent Examples:
- Informational:
- Informational search intent could be when someone searches "When was Apple founded". It is a simple question with a simple answer.
- Navigational:
- Navigational search is when someone makes a search for "Adidas" rather than typing www.adidas.com into the search engine.
- Transactional:
- Transactional searches are used prior to making a purchase. An example would be searching for " adidas student discount". This indicates that a purchase is likely to happen after finding the search results.
- Commercial Investigation:
- Commercial investigation would be if someone were to search "best fuel-efficient vehicle". There is a need for a product and there is an investigation being done to find the best product.
